Paperwork includes the original dealer invoice and supporting documentation from Lois Eminger as well as photographs of the car during its respray. No other word more accurately describes the shape of the Thunderbirds that Ford created for the 1961 to 1966 model years, although other adjectives such as 'striking,' 'alluring,' 'fascinating' and 'sensational' certainly do apply as well. It also has the Chrome engine appearance package and retains its original Kelsey Hayes Wheels. It was optioned with Air Conditioning, Power Steering and Brakes, Power Windows and Power Seats. Sales were strong, if not quite up to record-breaking 1960, at 73,051 including 10,516 convertibles. It was later owned by musician Richard Carpenter and spent time as part of a collection in California. This is one of 455 Sports Roadsters built for the model year and was originally delivered to Bay Shore Motors in La Jolla, California. The third and fourth digits should be 89 for a factory-built ’63 Sports Roadster. It has it’s original window sticker and its provenance has been confirmed by the late Lois Eminger, who had all of the original Ford invoices prior to her passing in 2008 and subsequently selling the later cars records to Marti auto. New for 1962 was the optional M-code 390, a 340-horsepower V-8 crowned with three Holley two-barrel carburetors. Technical highlights included an even bigger engine as Dearborn’s FE V-8 was enlarged to 390 cubic inches in ’61. A true Sports Roadster finished in Silver Mink with matching interior. Ford followed up the Squarebird’s three-year stint with the restyled Bullet Bird from 1961 to 1963.
